Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Natural - Tico Coffee Roasters

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Natural

blueberry, strawberry, raspberry

$20.00 5 reviews

The farmer, Bekele Heto, at 52 years, grows coffee on his 38-acre farm near the town of Worka-Sakaro located in the south-eastern corner of the coveted Gedeo Zone - the narrow section of plateau dense with savvy farmers whose coffee is known as “Yirgacheffe” in Ethiopia. Bekele has been cultivating coffee for 14 years but with the help of the single lot program he has been able to sell his coffee as a micro-lot in recent years. Coffee is Bekele’s main source of income that he uses to support his family of 14.

Ripe cherries for this natural processed coffee were carefully hand sorted and floated to remove less dense coffee beans. Next the cherries were dried on raised beds for 15 to 20 days and turned regularly to avoid over-fermentation and mold. Raised beds are carefully constructed to ensure proper air circulation and temperature control, for optimal drying. Cherries were covered during the afternoons to prevent harsh drying in the intense sun. Once the cherries finished drying to 11 percent moisture, they were transported to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to be milled and prepared for export.

Better than La Minita this year

Sold out La Miita that I most favorite, then I tried another favorite No.2 Ethiopian crop. Good aroma and I've satisfied enough.

Not bad for daily coffee

You may need to adjust the grind size to get the best result. Weak on the blueberry notes. No roasting date on the packaging, which is unusual for me.

Tico Coffee Roasters

Hi Yvan, thanks for your review and sorry we did not meet your expectation especially on the floors of the Yirgacheffe. You might want to try and play a little with the water ratio as well depending on your brewing method. Also thanks for the feedback on the roast date on the package. We normally do not put a roast date on our bags that ship directly from our Roastery as they are typically roasted with in two days of shipment and hence will be perfect to brew when they arrive. I will take your feedback though back to the team and see if we can add a roast date in general to all coffees even if they are roasted the day they ship. Again thanks for taking the time and get us your feedback! Best, Thomas Head of Roasting & Quality

Have Not tried it Yet

I just bought another 5 bags of various coffees.I am constantly trying the new varieties made available to me and have rarely found one that I do not like. Some I prefer to others, Like, La Minita and Cachoeira.
