Help Casa de la Alegría: Nurture and Educate Kids

At Tico Coffee Roasters, we believe coffee is more than just a drink — it’s about people, culture, and community. As a women- and Latina-owned company, we are proud to source directly from small farms around the world, honoring the lives and traditions behind every bean.

Since 2019, we’ve partnered with Daniela Gutiérrez and her family in Tarrazú, Costa Rica, purchasing coffee from their farm, Finca San Luis, each year. Beyond growing exceptional coffee, Daniela and her family are deeply committed to caring for the community that makes the harvest possible.

During Costa Rica’s coffee harvest (November–March), families of seasonal workers travel from Panama, Nicaragua, and across Costa Rica. With no safe childcare options, many children follow their parents to the farms — exposed to harsh weather, long days in the fields, and unsafe conditions.

To change this reality, Daniela and her family built Casa de la Alegría (House of Joy), a daycare center that provides:

✨ Healthy meals (breakfast, lunch, snacks)

✨ Education and activities led by a teacher

✨ Social interaction, play, and joy

✨ Comfort and care while their parents work long hours

For these children, Casa de la Alegría isn’t just a daycare — it’s a chance to learn, grow, and simply be kids.

Running Casa de la Alegría costs about $4,000 per month — covering staff, meals, supplies, and compliance with health and safety codes. With the harvest beginning in November, we need to raise $10,000 to help keep the doors open, provide backpacks for the upcoming school year, and ensure every child has a safe place this season.

At Tico Coffee Roasters, we’re contributing a portion of every sale of Finca San Luis coffee to support Casa de la Alegría. But we can’t do it alone.
